Inspired by the ‘third leg’ of the man addressed when it occurs in North Dallas Forty, by Peter Gent.
A conversation is taking place between professional football players as they take a shower: ‘“Hey, tripod.” O.W. Meadows pointed out the obvious endowment of a black rookie named Sledge. “If that thing gets hard, there ain’t gonna be room in here for the rest of us.”’ This is an ad hoc usage; ‘tripod’ is not listed in Chapman’s Dictionary of American Slang as a term for a man with a large penis.
